Nationals Teams practice two times per week during the regular season and perform in 5-6 competitions including up to two competitions outside of the DFW metroplex. May 27 - June 1, 2025

*MANDATORY for all Nationals Elite Teams*

Nationals Elite teams will finalize stunt groups and work stunt choreography straight out of the gates so that they can practice and perfect stunts and routine sections throughout the summer. Team-specific schedules will be released concurrent with 2025 Team Announcements.

For National and Regional Prep Teams, Stunt and Routine Choreography will take place August 15-17 and August 22-24.

For National and Regional Novice teams, Stunt and Routine Choreo will take place during Mandatory practices starting August 18th.

SUMMER PRACTICES

  • All Elite and Prep teams will practice twice a week during the summers. Because summer attendance is critical to the success of our Program, teams will practice on back-to-back days so that families can better plan out-of-town summer activities to maximize attendance.

    • Wednesdays + Thursdays: Elite Level 2

    • Prep Team Summer Schedules to be released with Team Announcements.

  • Novice teams will practice once a week during the summers.

  • 1. If my athlete is eligible for two USASF age divisions, which tryout time do I sign up for?

o The way USASF has crafted the age divisions, most athletes will be age eligible for two different divisions. Although you may select any tryout with an age division that pertains to your athlete, we recommend selecting the younger age division—for example, if your athlete is Youth and Junior age eligible, we recommend your athlete register for a Youth age tryout. However, if your athlete is trying out for a Nationals Flyer position, we recommend that your athlete select the older age division—for example, if your athlete is trying out as a Nationals Flyer and is age eligible for both Youth and Junior age divisions, select the Junior tryout.

    2. What is the difference in the Nationals and Regionals tryout?

o For the Regionals tryout you will only need to attend one day of tryouts. Our Nationals tryout will follow a two-day format. Day One of the Nationals tryout will evaluate individual skills, Day Two of the Nationals tryout will be a stunt evaluation!

    3. What are the Tryout Clinics?

o Tryout Clinics are optional sessions with the all-star coaches the week of your athlete’s tryout. They are provided to help your athlete prepare for tryouts. During the Tryout Clinic, your athlete will practice required skills and review the tryout format.

    4. Should I try out for the Regionals or Nationals Program?

o If you are not sure which program you prefer, we recommend tryout out for the Nationals Program. If coaches do not believe the Nationals Program is a fit for your athlete, they will place your athlete on a Regionals Team.

    5. If my athlete has an immovable conflict during tryouts, does my athlete have any other options?

o Mustang will offer a select number of semi-private tryouts. A link to register for private tryouts will go live later this month. However, if at all possible, we highly recommend you tryout during tryout weekend.

    6. For the Nationals Program, can my athlete sign up for a different level stunt clinic than the Day 1 individual skills tryout?

o No. Athletes will tryout for the same level both Days 1 and 2. Where athletes are stronger in stunting than individual skills, that athlete will have an opportunity to demonstrate those skills. If there is a major disparity between your athlete’s individual skills and stunt levels, please email brittany@mustangcheer.com to discuss further.

    7. Do I need to schedule a flyer tryout if I am trying out for the regionals program?

o No. Flyer tryouts are only required for our Nationals Program Teams.

    8. Do I have to register for a Nationals Flyer Tryout flyer if I want to be considered for a flying position on a Nationals Team?

o Yes. Only athletes who participate in a Nationals Flyer Tryout will be considered for a flying position on a Nationals Team.

    9. What do I wear to tryouts?

Athletes will wear the new gray Mustang Cheer All-Star Tryout Tee and navy or white shorts or skort. You will receive an email asking your athlete’s t-shirt size and will be able to pick up your tryout tee closer to tryouts! Your athlete will also wear soft-soled athletic shoes (white cheer shoes are preferred), and hair should be in a pony tail (white bow preferred for girls)!
